Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho is hiring a Program Director for the 2023 Summer Day Camp Program @ the Spokane Program Center!

2023 Camp Ashwell goes from June 5th to August 28th. The Day Camp shift is 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday

$7,965.00 for the entire camp season

Must be 21 years of age or older

Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho has been serving girls since 1937. Our Summer Day Camp operates out of our Program Center in Spokane, which houses a full-size gymnasium, teaching kitchen, computer lab, art studio, rock climbing wall, and an overnight hostel with its own kitchen. Over 300 girls each summer ages 5-17 enjoy a weekly themed program that includes STEM, arts and crafts, cooking, drama, swimming, hiking, and other skill-building fun.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Program Director will be responsible for developing programming and coordinating program schedules for camper groups each week. The Program Director will be the direct supervisor of the Program Specialist. Throughout the day, the Program Director will greet community partners, work with the Unit Directors on programs, and ensure that paperwork and supplies for all field trips and activities are complete.
 

Primary Responsibilities of Position: 

  • Attend to safety of campers at all times; follow and instruct campers on procedures for incidents and emergencies
    • Manage any type of conflict that may arise between campers.
    • Help supervise campers; assist as needed with breaks for unit staff.
  • Develop all-camp weekly programs in coordination with UDs; work with Program Specialist and Camp Director to finalize community partnerships and trips
    • In coordination with Program Specialist, plan and lead UD meetings twice a week to develop trip schedules, coordinate van usage, plan programs, and create master trips lists.
    • Work with Camp Director weekly to create weekly newsletter for parents.
    • Drive campers in Girl Scout vehicles as needed for field trips; provide extra supervision on trips outside of camp
    • Process counselor supply requisitions, manage unit budgets, and purchase and organize supplies for activities
  • Assist with the daily operation of the camp site:
    • Support Camp Director with the arrival and departure process, ensuring that all campers are checked in and out correctly.
    • Lead flag ceremonies and all-camps
    • Make announcements when Camp Director is not present
    • Assist with snack and lunch responsibilities daily.
    • Be alert to camper and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems; discuss with the camp director when appropriate.
  • Fully complete and submit all paperwork in a timely and efficient manner
  • Support Camp Director to train, supervise, evaluate, and support camp staff following human resource management practices in a manner that supports retention of seasonal staff.
  • With the Camp Director, complete staff evaluations for Assistant Program Director, Program Specialist, and Unit Directors
  • Fill in for staff when absent, including assuming the Camp Director’s leadership role.
  • Practice the Girl Scout Promise and Law with an inclusive attitude and a willingness to problem-solve.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all procedures and regulations according to the GSEWNI Council, GSUSA, and state and federal guidelines and laws.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older

Education/Experience:

  • Pass First Aid/CPR training or provide current certification
  • Two (2) years’ experience working with girls ages 5-14 through camp, day care, or teaching
  • One (1) year experience leading a team or supervising others
  • Two (2) years’ experience working as a member of a team and accomplishing tasks with minimal direct supervision
  • Possess a current driver’s license and be insurable
  • Willingness to subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout movement, including acceptance of the Girl Scout philosophy and willingness to maintain membership in the Girl Scouts of the USA

Physical Abilities:
The physical health and capacity to be on one’s feet for at least 8 hours a day, stand or walk for long periods of time, lift at least 30 pounds, and participate in games and activities with girls ages 5-14

Work Environment:
While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee works in close proximity to others. They may only use personal electronics during personal designated breaks and out of sight of campers, unless expressly given permission to do otherwise by the camp director for purposes of camp communication. Camp is a fast-paced environment and can create high-stress situations which the employee will be expected to manage.
