Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho (GSEWNI) is hiring Outreach Field Specialists to join the team in Spokane.

Girl Scouts is looking for part-time Outreach Field Specialists to provide afterschool activities for five north Spokane schools for the 2021/2022 school year. The Outreach Field Specialist works with girls in various school grades to plan, develop and build projects that are related to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience curriculum (STEM, Outdoor, Entrepreneurship, and Life Skills).

$15.00 an hour / 10 to 15 per week

Hours will be afternoons and evenings - occasional weekend hours.

GSEWNI is a non-profit organization. The GSEWNI council serves an area comprised of 19 counties in Central and Eastern Washington, and 10 counties in Northern Idaho for a total of 29 counties covering 67,000 square miles. The council is headquartered in Spokane, Washington and has regional field staff located in the Tri-Cities, Washington and Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. GSEWNI serves approximately 4,000 girls in kindergarten through 12th grade with the help of 2,000 dedicated adult volunteers. Girls are at the center of everything we do as a council. Girl Scouts is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls, the leading authority on girls’ healthy development and we are working daily with girls and women to transform the leadership landscape for girls into the next century.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

  • In collaboration with the girls, develops plans for after school program activities.
  • Submits requests for special supplies needed and track expenses for each program.
  • Incorporates Girl Scout principles into each meeting with girls: makes sure each meeting includes some elements of girl-led, hands-on, cooperative learning.
  • Models teamwork and problem solving while creating opportunities for girls to apply strategies themselves.
  • Works seamlessly with co-leader, school staff, and GSEWNI Council staff members.
  • Completes paperwork such as attendance, rosters, etc.
  • Communicates positively with parents and other community members about Girl Scouts and the troop.
  • Connects parents and guardians with other Girl Scout program opportunities such as resident camp, STEM and outdoor activities, and badge workshops.
  • Coordinates group fundraising through Cookie Sales; introduces financial literacy activities to girls and coaches them through financial literacy badges.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:

  • Previous GSUSA experience, preferred.
  • Experience working in small and large group settings with youth.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Must be experienced in the use of computers, including word processing, Outlook, spreadsheets, and the internet.
  • Willingness to subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout movement, including acceptance of the Girl Scout philosophy and willingness to maintain membership in the Girl Scouts USA
  • Bilingual (Spanish) speaking skills preferred.

Physical Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

Occasionally lift objects up 30 pounds, repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Rarely climb, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist and crouch. Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.

Work Environment:

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee is exposed to an elementary school environment. Secondary work environment consists of the employee exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels.
