Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho is hiring a Program Specialist for 2023 Summer Day Camp at the Program Center in Spokane!

Day Camp "Ashwell" goes from June 5th to August 28th. The Day Camp shift is 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday

$7,670.00 for the entire camp season

Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho has been serving girls since 1937. Our Summer Day Camp operates out of our Program Center in Spokane, which houses a full-size gymnasium, teaching kitchen, computer lab, art studio, rock climbing wall, and an overnight hostel with its own kitchen. Over 300 girls each summer ages 5-17 enjoy a weekly themed program that includes STEM, arts and crafts, cooking, drama, swimming, hiking, and other skill-building fun.

Position Summary:

The Program Specialist is responsible for developing curriculum and programming that maximizes the Girl Scout experience in the areas of life skills, entrepreneurialism, outdoor skills and the STEM experience.  The Program Specialist-Day Camp is responsible for planning, budgeting and implementing GSEWNI’s day camps throughout the council region and specific event programs such as the Cookie Rallies, United Way and or other grant proposals and partnerships where programming is required. The position requires significant teamwork with multiple staff with a creative and positive environment. 

Primary Responsibilities of Position: 

  • Promotes and supports Girl Scout programs philosophies of GSUSA and GSEWNI.
  • Independently develops curriculum for yearlong programming to enhance the Girl Scouts Experience
  • Incorporates STEM into yearlong programming to accentuate the math and science experience in the Council.
  • Supports the deployment of the STEM Mobile and assists with STEM Mobile programming to all parts of the Council.
  • Synchronizes programming with other program specialists to enhance synergy of overall Girl Scout Experience
  • Delivers on-demand Girl Scout programming to Girl Scouts, troops, and the general public (ex: school groups), most specifically STEM specific programming.
  • Sets goals to support the strategic plan, budgeting and implementation of all program activities.
    • Helps evaluate current programs and make recommendations for future programs that deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through series pathways and the capacity of resources and staff that would be required.
  • Monitors programming trends of other Girl Scout Councils, attends approved conferences and webinars offered by GSUSA or other related ACA trainings. Continues professional development as it relates to program design.
  • Plans, develops and implements in-school and after school opportunities, which may include grants.
  • As the director of Girl Scout Day Camp activities which occur during the year (winter holiday, spring break and summer), which includes: hiring, training and assigning of duties of the Day Camp seasonal staff and volunteers. Responsible for providing guidance and/or training for the staff and volunteers.
    • Follows or adjusts procedures, routines and practices for day camp operations which conforms to GSUSA, GSEWNI, Washington, Idaho and Oregon state regulations, and ACA standards.
    • Responsible for making sure that seasonal hires and volunteers adhere to the Personnel Policies for GSEWNI, Safety Wise requirements and ACA standards.
  • Develops and trains adult volunteers to help in the implementation and supervision of programs.
  • Collects and shares program data and reports when requested.
  • Contributes to the goal of creating an inclusive organization by working harmoniously with diverse staff and volunteers’ personnel and ensures that all systems, practices and procedures are inclusive.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in education or STEM.
  • Valid Driver’s License and insurability required.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to pass background check.
  • Must be experienced with office equipment, multi-line phone system, and cashiering.
  • Must be experienced in the use of computers including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook and applications such as Zoom and TEAMS.  CRM experience, especially Salesforce, desirable. Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies with ability to understand the basic data quality principles and practice. Must be able to compile information and develop related reports, using council software.
  • Willingness to subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout movement, including acceptance of the Girl Scout philosophy and willingness to maintain membership in the Girl Scouts USA.

Physical Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:
Occasionally lift objects up 50 pounds, repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.  Rarely climb, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist and crouch. Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time and work in inclement weather.  Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors (no color blindness)

Work Environment:
While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee works in close proximity to others. They may only use personal electronics during personal designated breaks and out of sight of campers, unless expressly given permission to do otherwise by the camp director for purposes of camp communication. Camp is a fast-paced environment and can create high-stress situations which the employee will be expected to manage.
