Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho is hiring Outreach Field Specialists to join our team in Spokane!


Girl Scouts is looking for part-time Outreach Field Specialists to provide afterschool activities for five north Spokane schools for the 2022/2023 school year. The Outreach Field Specialist works with girls in various school grades to plan, develop and build projects that are related to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience curriculum (STEM, Outdoor, Entrepreneurship, and Life Skills).

$17.00 to $18.00 an hour. DOE (10 to 15 hours per week - Seasonal)
Hours will be afternoons and evenings & occasional weekend hours.

GSEWNI is a non-profit organization. The GSEWNI council serves an area comprised of 19 counties in Central and Eastern Washington, and 10 counties in Northern Idaho for a total of 29 counties covering 67,000 square miles. The council is headquartered in Spokane, Washington and has regional field staff located in the Tri-Cities, Washington and Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. GSEWNI serves approximately 4,000 girls in kindergarten through 12th grade with the help of 2,000 dedicated adult volunteers. Girls are at the center of everything we do as a council. Girl Scouts is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls, the leading authority on girls’ healthy development and we are working daily with girls and women to transform the leadership landscape for girls into the next century.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Outreach Field Assistant works with the Outreach Field Coordinator to deliver program to Outreach Girl Scout Troops.  Programs are in the categories of STEM, Outdoors, Entrepreneurship, and Life skills as they relate to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and Girl Scout badge and journey curriculum.  Must be willing to provide transportation – driving 12 passenger van.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

  • Uses curriculum provided and guides girls through activities. 
  • Communicates with Field Specialist if supplies are running low or if there are ideas for supplies for upcoming activities. 
  • Incorporates Girl Scout principles into each meeting with girls: Allow meeting to have elements of girl-led, hands-on, cooperative learning – while providing guidance and supervision as needed.
  • Models team work and problem solving while creating opportunities for girls to apply strategies themselves.
  • Works seamlessly with co-leaders and other GSEWNI staff.
  • Completes paperwork such as attendance, rosters, etc.
  • Communicates positively with parents and other community members about Girl Scouts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Previous GSUSA experience, preferred
  • Experience working in small and large group settings with children.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Available for evening work and occasional weekends
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations; within city limits.
  • Ability to lead activities through Zoom meetings which may require facilitation of Zoom meetings while on site at Girl Scouts. 
  • Willingness to subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout movement, including acceptance of the Girl Scout philosophy and willingness to maintain membership in the Girl Scouts USA.

Physical Abilities:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

Occasionally lift objects up 30 pounds, repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.  Rarely climb, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist and crouch. Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time and work in inclement weather.  Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors (no color blindness).

Mental & Other Skills/Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the:

  • Multi-Tasking Ability: ability to handle many diverse tasks/projects at one time; ability to prioritize and complete them on time.

Work Environment:   

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee is exposed to a school environment at a local Elementary School and local Community Center. Secondary work environment consists of the employee exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels.  Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment is an integral part of this position, as is the ability to work with high-stress situations based on the nature of GSEWNI mission and daily work.
