Girls Scouts of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho is looking for a Health Care Supervisor for Beautiful Camp Four Echoes, Summer Resident Camp 2023 - Approximately $7,475.00 for the camp season - Plus room & board.  Come and have fun at the lake this summer!

All staff live on-site from June 3rd to August 17th for the 2023 Camp Season - * Dates subject to change according to position.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho has been serving girls since 1937. Our Resident Camp operates at Camp Four Echoes, a council-owned property of over 200 acres near Worley, ID. Over 500 girls each summer ages 5-17 enjoy programs in STEM, arts and crafts, cooking, drama, swimming, boating, hiking, and other skill-building fun. Each session, girls lead the way by planning their own activities with their camper group. Each week has a theme and campers plan activities and meals related to that theme. Camp Four Echoes, a girl scout camp, is located on the wooded shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Six living units house 18-24 girls weekly. Each unit has flush toilets and running water, but no electricity. Meals are provided in a group setting in our central dining hall. We also have a staff lounge for your time off.


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Health Supervisor is responsible for health, safety and hygiene of girls ages 5-17 and seasonal camp staff. This position is also accountable for the general safety and empowering the personal growth and skill development of both campers and staff regarding personal health and safety. The Health Supervisor exhibits enthusiasm and patience while exemplifying the Girl Scout core values of honesty, caring, courage, and character.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

  • Participates in 10-day staff training and assist in training staff on specific first aid or health procedures of camp, which includes procedures for incidents and emergencies
  • Trains camp staff in using the items in the provided first aid kits and any safety or health equipment that camp will provide for them
  • Informs the Camp Director, Head Cook and any other necessary staff regarding allergies, special diets, medications or health concerns particular to keeping a camper safe, while preserving the camper’s dignity and right to privacy
  • Manages routine and as needed medications as well as over the counter medications according to the Health Care Procedures and Orders given by the Camp Doctor; maintains accurate records regarding medication and treatment given to any staff, camper or visitor
  • Maintains camper and staff health records according to Health Care Procedures
  • Oversees open day health checks including lice, athlete’s foot and general wellness checks and medication check in. Maintains records on health checks
  • Regularly checks and restocks all camp first aid kits, including kits carried by unit staff, at the program areas and in camp vehicles; checks that records are being adequately maintained
  • Notifies the Camp Director of any serious or emerging illnesses or injuries that require outside professional care or notification of parents/caregivers
  • Regularly checks all program and food service areas for cleanliness and any safety concerns; at least weekly, check each living unit, shower-houses, laundry areas and staff living quarters for cleanliness and safety concerns. Reports any concerns to the camp director
  • Manages health needs of campers on closing day; communicates with Unit Leaders regarding returning medications to guardians/caregivers.
  • Attends to safety of campers at all times; follows and instructs staff on procedures for incidents and emergencies that may occur on trips or at camp.
  • Supervises any campers or staff staying in the infirmary (known as the Band Aid Station)
  • Attends all meals with campers in the dining hall or during cook-outs. Teaches and models table manners, appropriate meal conversation and positive social interactions
  • Works to create a positive group culture through team-building and problem-solving activities
  • Models and instructs on personal responsibilities such as conflict management, positive relationships, following rules, and respecting camp property
  • Follows and implements appropriate behavior management procedures with all campers.
  • Completes and submits all paperwork in a timely and efficient manner
  • Exhibits punctuality and communication in time management, including daily and weekly breaks
  • Respects and follows the “Camp is for the camper” philosophy by attending to camper, staff and camp needs first
  • Communicates with parents/caregivers and campers prior to and during camp regarding medications, health concerns, special diets, allergies and other health-related needs
  • Represents camp appropriately in the community and with parents by maintaining personal hygiene, following camp dress code, and communicating respectfully with campers, parents and other adults.
  • Actively participates in staff trainings, meetings, and camp closing activities, including but not limited to deep cleaning, lifting or moving equipment, taking out trash and closing inventory.
  • Reports concerns and incidents to Camp Director
  • Practices the Girl Scout Promise and Law with an inclusive attitude and a willingness to problem-solve
  • Leads weekly scheduling meetings with Unit Leaders. Address staff supervisory issues, providing support and advice to supervisors
  • Follows all procedures and regulations according to the GSEWNI Council, GSUSA, and state and federal guidelines and laws and the American Camp Association
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 years or older

Education/Experience:

  • Current First Aid & CPR certification
  • One (1) year experience in healthcare
  • Ability to grasp the landscape within an organization, show passion for working with Girl Scouts and the nonprofit environment and expertise in using various communication vehicles that engage girls, volunteers, parents, donors and the community.
  • Valid Driver’s License and insurability required.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Willingness to subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout movement, including acceptance of the Girl Scout philosophy and willingness to maintain membership in the Girl Scouts USA.

Physical Abilities: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

Regularly lift objects up 20 pounds, repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.  Climb, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist and crouch while performing custodial duties.  Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time, up to 12 hours, and work in inclement weather.  Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors (no color blindness)

  • Multi-Tasking Ability: ability to handle many diverse tasks/projects at one time; ability to prioritize and complete them on time.

Work Environment:

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee lives for up to 12 weeks in close proximity to others, including sharing living quarters, restrooms, laundry facilities and a common staff lounge. May only use personal electronics (such as computers, phones and other devices) only during personal designated breaks and out of sight of campers.
